Construction of a New Research Center

On November 10, construction began on a new research centre in the teaching and research area of the Reserve.

The research centre will be used to study the interactions between living organisms (biodiversity and ecosystems) and how weather conditions and chemical stress impact them. The centre’s researchers will use state-of-the-art instruments to study and analyze water, soil and biological samples, among other things. Used in conjunction with a range of meteorological instruments, drones and mobile laboratories, the centre will allow for on-site data acquisition, processing and analysis.

This project was made possible through funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Government of Quebec and McGill University and is the product of a joint effort between scientists from the departments of Biology, Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences (AOS), and Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) in the McGill University's Faculty of Science.

The building was designed with the environment in mind, in line with high-performance environmental practices. The project will be submitted for a LEED Canada Gold certification, a sustainable building rating.
