Planification guide for group activities

What to wear

  • Check the trail conditions on our website.
  • Wear weather-appropriate clothing suitable for hiking (long pants, hiking boots, traction cleats in winter).
  • Bring a backpack with a lunch, snacks, and a change of clothes. There are no lockers or changing facilities on site.

Washrooms

Available at the Welcome Centre and the cottage by Lac Hertel

  • Water fountain (please bring a reusable bottle)
  • Shop (snacks, local products – card payment only)

Accessibility

Accessible parking available upon request and adapted washrooms.

Rules and guidelines

Certain activities are prohibited to protect the ecosystems. Group leaders are responsible for ensuring that all participants follow the rules.

Main prohibitions:

  • Leaving designated trails
  • Making excessive noise
  • Smoking or vaping
  • Bringing pets
  • Biking or using motorized vehicles
  • Swimming, fishing, or boating on Lake Hertel
  • Lighting fires or using BBQs or drones

Respect for nature:

  • Do not pick plants, flowers, or mushrooms.
  • Take your waste with you and use garbage/recycling bins at designated locations.
  • Do not feed wildlife and avoid any disruptive interactions.

Safety and emergencies

A first aid kit is required for your group.

In case of emergency:

  • Call 911.
  • Stay where you are and provide your exact location.

Please note: Cell service is weak or unavailable in some areas.

Organizer responsibilities

Supervision

1 adult supervisor per 10 students (elementary/high school)

Discipline and safety

  • Supervisors must actively oversee students and ensure that all guidelines are followed.
  • The Gault Nature Reserve reserves the right to deny access to any group that does not comply with the rules.

Access

Groups must arrive by bus via the main entrance (422, chemin des Moulins). Upon arrival, a member of our team will greet you with a brief introduction and a review of safety guidelines.
