Mineral Exhibit: Recap of the 2024-2025 Crowdfunding Campaign

Campaign goals

Thanks to your support, we have reached an important milestone in creating a unique educational space at the Gault Nature Reserve. This space will allow visitors to discover the exceptional geology of Mont Saint-Hilaire through an interactive and educational exhibition.

Highlights

With your support, we will be able to:

  • Set up an exhibition space showcasing the exceptional minerals of Mont Saint-Hilaire.
  • Develop engaging educational materials to enrich the visitor experience.
  • Create interactive elements that allow visitors to explore the region’s geological history in an immersive way.

About the Gault Nature Reserve

Affiliated with McGill University’s Faculty of Science, the Gault Nature Reserve protects over 1,000 hectares of natural habitats on Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec. Known for its remarkable landscapes and rich natural heritage, it welcomes thousands of visitors each year, including more than 7,700 elementary, secondary, and CEGEP students on educational outings.

Mont Saint-Hilaire is a world-renowned site for mineralogists: more than 420 mineral species have been identified there, including 67 that are new to science. To showcase this exceptional richness, we have undertaken the creation of a permanent exhibition in our Alice Johannsen Welcome Centre.

Campaign results

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we raised over $17,800 to help bring this project to life.

On March 12, 2025, we unveiled a preview of our upcoming educational space dedicated to the geology of Mont Saint-Hilaire. The event, held at the Alice Johannsen Welcome Centre, offered an opportunity to connect with our community over a glass of local cider, alongside mineral expert Gilles Haineault.

Next steps

The project continues to move forward. Exciting developments are enriching the initiative and allowing us to deepen our vision, so we can offer visitors an even more memorable experience. We can’t wait to share more details soon. Major announcements are coming!
