Date and time
Saturday, September 14 – 2 p.m.
Location
Gault Nature Reserve Picnic Area 422 chemin des Moulins, Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC
Description
CIME is an immersive exploration of the soundscape of the Mont Saint-Hilaire ecosystem, blending together art, science, technology and soundscape ecology. Digital sound artist Florence-Delphine Roux has done an in-depth study of the Gault Nature Reserve, recording a wide variety of sounds using radios and antennae specially designed to capture very low frequencies, such as those caused by lightning. She has enriched her recordings with sonified scientific data.
Florence-Delphine will be composing a piece live to educate listeners about the rich sounds of their environment. She will integrate live recordings of audible soundscapes with natural phenomena that cannot be heard by the human ear. Nature’s harmonies will gradually blend into disruptive radio frequencies, infusing the composition with an aura of mystery, echoing the legends and folklore of Mont Saint-Hilaire.
Through wireless headphones, you will enjoy a contemplative acousmatic experience, with all of the sounds recorded in real time and then reworked, spatially arranged and broadcast. The performance will plunge you into a world at once peaceful and enigmatic.
This research project and artistic work were made possible through the support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Note: Postponed to September 15 in the event of rain.
